Gamla Stan (the Old Town), Stockholm's medieval quarter, is a maze of narrow alleyways, tucked-away courtyards, and picturesque squares. Spread across three main islands, it forms the city's historic center, where the waters of Lake Mälaren meet those of the Baltic Sea. It is home to Sweden's most important historic buildings and institutions, including the Royal Palace, the Parliament, and the Cathedral.

Norrmalm, the heart of modern Stockholm, is defined by broad avenues and busy squares. While its streets began to take shape in the late 17th century, it wasn't until the 20th century that it truly earned its nickname "the City," becoming the capital's undisputed commercial and financial center. Today, Norrmalm blends architectural heritage with dynamic urban life and is home to the Royal Opera and the renowned Concert Hall (Konserthuset).

Östermalm is the elegant neighborhood often nicknamed "Little Paris" for its 19th-century architecture, reminiscent of the French capital. Amid stylish restaurants, lively nightlife, and luxury boutiques, you will find the city's historic market hall, the Royal Dramatic Theatre, an Art Nouveau landmark, and a beautiful waterfront promenade. Lined with moored sailboats, this scenic stretch leads to Djurgården, the royal park, a former hunting ground.

Södermalm, once a working-class neighborhood, has in recent decades evolved into Stockholm's creative and alternative heart. Eclectic and full of character, this neighborhood helped inspire Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy and is home to a vibrant community of well-known artists and actors. Here you can take in breathtaking views, browse vintage shops, relax in independent cafes, and discover striking murals by international street artists.
